We parked above the toilet block on the Tharwa side of the bridge. The Murrumbidgee River was wide, high and roaring along. Walked over the bridge, hopped a gate or two and walked the right bank of the river into, out of, then finally back into the Gigerline Nature Reserve. A lovely, mild, sunny morning. The grass long and damp. Plenty of water, even flowing down long-dry gullies into the 'bidgee. Excellent views of Sheep Station Creek, the Gudgenby River and the Murrumbidgee River as we climbed. A final puff to the 834m high Gigerline trig on said Hill. A long morning tea.
Returned via another spur line containing a couple of lovely little knolls.
Back too early - Rob reckoned we were over-trained - so we strolled up to the De Salis cemetery. Blocked off, but a Ranger there allowed us in. There appears to be a new scar on the NE face of Mt Tennent - a water-washed gully? Lunch and return.
Thanks Rob H, a very pleasant ramble. Company from Chris R and Cynthia B, Gerald D, Jenny H, Phillip S and Steven S.
Distance: 11.1km Climb: 300m. Time: 8.40am - 1.05pm (4hrs 25mins), with 1hr 10mins of stops.
Grading: M/M; M(9)
